Visitor information

Butterfly tip

Butterflies like bright colours such as red. So wear a colourful shirt and hat and you just might have a close encounter with a butterfly. And make sure you have your camera ready.

Guided tours

You can participate in an informative and interesting tour with one of our friendly Flight Attendants. You can then wander through the Butterfly House at your leisure.

Raise butterflies as a hobby

Volunteer with us and learn about how to hand-raise and care for these amazing creatures.  Experience the joy of seeing the butterflies emerge, then make a wish and let them go free.

Timing your visit

Visitors love the Butterfly House and sometimes it may be a little crowded, especially in the mornings. If you prefer a quieter time, please consider arriving early afternoon. Allow approx 1 hour  for your visit.

Group tours

Groups are welcome by appointment on the first Thursday of each month. Discounts available for 15+ people. Download our group tours FAQs.

Plant foster carers

You can help at home by growing and preparing healthy food plants for the hungry caterpillars in our Breeding Laboratory. If you love caring for potted plants, then we’d love to hear from you.

At Bribie Island Butterfly House you can expect to see 50,000 to 100,000 take-offs and landings on a sunny day (when we are stocked with 500 – 1,000 butterflies).
